1. Different adjective [dif-er-uh nt, dif-ruh nt]

- not the same
(違った)

2. Popular adjective [pop-yuh-ler]

パート3: ショートストーリー

Online English Classes

Yuko is from Japan. She can speak Japanese and English. Next month, she will go to America on a homestay, so she started taking online English classes. She had the textbook but she didn’t have an English dictionary. She asked her sister, “Can you come to the store with me? I need to buy an English dictionary.”

The next morning, Yuko and her sister went shopping for a dictionary. First, they went to a computer shop to look for electronic dictionaries. The most expensive one was $200 and the cheapest one was $80. “They are too expensive!”, Yuko’s sister said. “Let’s go to the bookstore!”, Yuko said. They didn’t find any electronic dictionaries in the bookstore, but there were paper ones. “I like this one because it’s very small.”, Yuko said. She bought the small paper dictionary for $15.

When Yuko got home, she took an online English class using her new dictionary. She hopes to speak English well in the future.
