パート1:ボキャブラリー

1. Work verb [wurk]

- to do a job to earn money
[（人）が働く, 勤めている]

◼ Example: My father works in a hospital.
◻ Note: Where would you like to work in the future?

2. Help verb [help]

- to assist or aid (someone to do something), especially by sharing the work
(～を助ける, 援助する)

◼ Example: I always help my little sister with her English homework.
◻ Note: Do you help your parents at home? What do you do?

3. Catch verb [kach]

- to grab and hold (something that has been thrown, propelled, or dropped)
[（空中を動いているもの）をつかむ]

◼ Example: Throw the ball to me and I will catch it.
◻ Note: Can you catch a ball?

4. Study verb [stuhd--ee]

- to learn about something by reading or practicing
(～を勉強する, 学ぶ)

◼ Example: I have a test tomorrow. I must study very hard.
◻ Note: Do you study English everyday?

5. Play verb [pley]

- engage in (a game or activity) for enjoyment
(遊ぶ)

パート3: ショートストーリー

Hideko’s New Friend

It was Sunday. It was raining that day. Hideko was inside the house. He was watching TV. Hideko could not go outside because it was raining heavily. He was sad because he couldn’t play outside with his friends.

Hideko heard someone at the door. He opened the door. He was surprised. Hideko saw a dog. The dog was small. It was wet from the rain. “Awww! You are all wet,” Hideko said to the dog. “You are very cute!”

“Mom! There is a dog here”, Hideko called his Mom. Hideko’s Mom came to the door. “Can we keep it?” he asked his mom. “Please! He really needs a home”, Hideko said. “Okay, you can keep it!” said Hideko’s mom.

Hideko prepared a warm bed for the dog in his bedroom. They were both happy. Hideko kept the dog as his pet.
