Hinamatsuri, or Japanese Doll Festival, is celebrated in Japan on the 3rd day of March. People display a set of ornamental dolls on platforms covered with a red carpet. These dolls represent the Emperor, the Empress, and some attendants and musicians. Families start displaying the dolls in February and take them down right after the festival.
