Buddhists also believe in seven reincarnations, and Japan is considered to be a Buddhist country. Moreover, Japanese people celebrate the seventh day after the baby's birth. Japanese people also have the custom to eat seven herbs, nanakusa, on January 7th. These herbs are believed to remove evil from the body and prevent illness. They also have the saying seven falls, eight getting up, which encourages people to keep going even though life is tough.
